After School Care

25 January 2021

Dear families

After School Care 2021

For the past few years, the board of trustees has been financially supporting the provision of our after school programme from the schools operations grant. Increased  staffing costs, operation costs, and only a few families using this service has meant that the programme has not been self-supporting.

However, the Board see that providing this service beneficially supports those families who do use it and who would use it in the future.   With this in mind, we have agreed to work with Magic Kids Club as the provider of our after school care facility based at Outram School from 2021.

Magic Kids Club are an experienced and specialised provider of after school care and holiday programmes around the Dunedin area. They are very enthusiastic to be able to open a new centre here at Outram. https://magicchildcare.co.nz/

We are in the process of transitioning the programme from us to Magic Kids Club. So, for the first two weeks of school, After School Care will operate as normal run by Kirsty and Michelle. Nikki is no longer available so will not be returning this year. Times and booking systems will all operate as usual. After School Care reopens on Tuesday 2nd February. It will be closed on Monday 8th February for Waitangi Day.

Once Magic Kids Club takes over there will be a change to how bookings are made, they may look at extending the hours if there is a demand and rates will remain about the same initially. We will let you know all the details when we receive the information.

Personnel are still being arranged by Magic Kids Club, and we will let you know and introduce you to who the new staff member(s) will be as soon as we are able to. Based on the numbers of children currently attending, the programme will likely operate with one staff member. As a Ministry of Social Development recognised programme there are protocols and health and safety policies which must be in place to allow this to happen. We are assured that these details are in place by Magic Kids Club.

Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) Subsidy payments from Work and Income will still be available for families to apply for. https://www.workandincome.govt.nz/products/a-z-benefits/oscar-subsidy.html  This is a subsidy which helps families with the costs of before and after school care for up to 20 hours a week, and school holiday programmes for up to 50 hours a week. Magic Kids Club and the school are happy to assist you with this application process.

If you have any questions regarding this change, please do not hesitate to make contact with us.

Yours sincerely
